Ernie Shelton’s music and performance
style brings a sense of joy and emotional adventure to every audience. His repertoire visits the familiar and explores the unexpected. With a comfortable stage presence, Ernie entertains and touches audiences with the magic of his musical storytelling. He is, simply put, ”a class act.”
“I love the American Jazz tradition. Both instrumental and vocal genres have been sources of study and inspiration, from the Popular Songbook to Bebop and Latin. I have worked to craft the art of song interpretation with an infusion of my own melodic and lyrical sensibility,” says Ernie.
Mr. Shelton’s primary influences in the vocal world include Mel Torme, Carmen McRae and Chet Baker. Contemporary favorites include Mark Murphy and Kurt Elling.
Ernie appears on the musical theater stage, in nightclub venues and in private and public concert settings. He performs with groups ranging from duets to his latest twelve piece ”small” Big Band, The Ernie Shelton Dek-tette, which showcases the Mel Torme/Marty Paich Songbook.
